Strongly rooted in a rich, professional musical theatre background, Ventura Girlz (sisters Kelsey & Hayley Smith and Molly & Lindsay Ryan) first crossed paths in a crowded audition room in Manhattan in April of 2005. Little did they know what would lie ahead!
Touring contracts were soon offered for both sets of sisters - Kelsey and Hayley with Care Bears Live, and Molly and Lindsay with the 30th Anniversary National Equity Tour of Annie. The pairs spent time touring North America and eventually returned to their homes, where more professional opportunities came.
The Ryans, originally from Missouri, continued to carry principal roles at The Muny, Stages St. Louis, film and commercials. Molly returned to New York, for a time, as a part of the Original Broadway Cast of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Family matters relocated the family to Los Angeles where Molly and Lindsay were offered principal roles in The American Girls Revue.
The Smiths and Ryans meet again.
Kelsey and Hayley continued to carry lead roles at The Welk Resort Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, Sacramento Music circus, Atlanta's Fox Theater, and The Odyssey. As fate would have it, they were cast in The American Girls Revue in Hollywood along with Molly and Lindsay. Since all four girls lived in the same part of Los Angeles, endless carpools, sleepovers, and shopping sprees seemed inevitable! True friendships happen without any effort.
All four girls continue to film national commercials, record voiceovers and work on other various film and television projects, including co-star appearances on ABC's "Samantha Who" and "Desperate Housewives." They strive for continual success in their fields, studying dance, voice and acting most days of the week. Molly and Kelsey study and play guitar, Hayley keyboards and Lindsay drums and piano. Individual group accomplishments also include membership on the Los Angeles Clippers Jr. Jam Squad, one-on-one songwriting with Grammy award winner singer/songwriter/actress Deborah Gibson, membership with performance dance companies, and multiple academic and athletic awards. All four girls have worked closely with Deborah "Debbie" Gibson, and her industry partner famed acting coach Howard Fine.
The girls range in age from 13 to 14.
Ventura Girlz continue to record original songs written and produced by Grammy Award Nominee, Alex Cantrall (JoJo, Fantasia, Vanessa Hudgens, etc). They continue to perfect their set under Alex, famed vocal coach Billy Purnell and choreographer Carol Cantrall and acting coach, John D'Aquino.
Look for the Ventura Girlz to appear performing the National Anthem at various professional venues, including for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers, International Basketball League's Los Angeles Lightning, where they'll also provide halftime entertainment. The group is also active in assisting the special needs community, regularly providing entertainment for Autism Speaks Chapters across the country, SCAAN, FHA and more. The cause for raising awareness about autism, particularly, is near and dear to the Ventura Girlz' hearts, as Molly and Lindsay's youngest brother, Christopher, is affected with the disorder.
The desire of Ventura Girlz is to continue to perform, grow and develop as artist and friends, be a force for change and improvements in our society, bring smiles to faces, and inspire people all over the world. Anything else that happens is "icing on the cake."
